Last year about this time I started using Powdered foundation (which I LOVE) prior to this I was using liquid which I would rub on with my finger and the top powder came with a sponge which I would use everyday, thus not using a makeup brush for much besides eye shadow. So for about 9 months I have been using makeup brushes and again love how my makeup looks way more natural and not clumpy this I know has to do with the brand of makeup but I also think it's party the way the brushes apply it. For about a week or so i have noticed my brushes being dirty. I had remembered that I had pinned something about cleaning brushes! So on this lovely Sunday afternoon while the hubby got in some Call of Duty time I got out my brushes and followed the steps bellow : )
So there are so many complicated ways out there. I guess my concern was that I didn't know what product to use or if I would hurt my brushes by bending the brushes or squeezing them out. Little did I know that you didn't need all that! All I used was my favorite baby shampoo and a small glass bowl.
Step ONE: put a little drop of soap in the bowl and add a tiny bit of warm water.
Step TWO: Gently swish the brush around in your mixture. Try not to smash the brussels or bend more than you would while applying in daily use. Just go in circles until you see the water change colors and get icky! Repeat step 1 and 2 once more.
Step THREE: Rinse the dirty water out and then refill the bowl this time with just water. You don't need much just about half an inch or so. Try to keep the top of the handle away from being to wet to prevent wear on the glue that holds your brush. Continue to rinse in this way two or three additional time or until the water stays clear as pictured bellow.
Step FIVE: Bend the edge of a towel over and lay brushes leaning down again to prevent water getting into the handle. Re-shaping brushes as needed.
Let dry for several hours and they should be as good as new! It would probably be good to do this every one to two months. We shall see how that goes, it was easy.
